WHERE?
The Great Pyramids of Egypt are located on the west bank of the Nile River, Egypt, Africa. None of the 98 pyramids found to date are on the East bank. Furthermore, they are said to be  in the "Exact center of the world", meaning that if you draw a line in the four compass directions away from the pyramid, the line covers more land than it  would if the pyramid was built at any other place. Also, drawing a line down the two angles on the north face encompass the Nile's Delta region.
The Giza Plateau has a fairly level granite bedrock base and is,in essence, a flat topped mountain. Other regions near the Great Pyramid could not have supported the immense weight of the structure. The Great Pyramid is at the northern edge of the Giza plateau and close to the cliff there. Much of the rubble and debris from construction was dumped over the cliff and actually acts to strengthen the cliff from crumbling due to the tremendous weight and closeness of the Great Pyramid. There is so much stone mass in the pyramid that the interior temperature is constant and equals the average temperature of the earth, 68 degrees Fahrenheit.

 WHEN?
The Great Pyramids were built from  about 2700 to 2500 B.C. The Egyptian Pyramids are the oldest and only surviving member of the ancient wonders.

 WHO?
The "Owner" of the Great pyramid is thought to be the pharoah Khufu. Although no record of the kings name appears in the pyramid, excavations of the blocks above the Kings Chamber have found graffiti left by the workers. Although there is a sarcophagus inside, which is curiously one inch bigger than the door, there isn't a body or evidence that there ever was one. It is thought that the pyramid was built by Egyptian farmworkers during the Nile flooding season, when the land they owned was covered in water. They were directed by some special craftsman, or perhaps relegious figures. It took about 23 years, which means about 200 blocks a day had to be put in place, or a block every two minutes as some have estimated.
It seems the Egyptians kept construction knowledge to a small group of people, which is maybe why we know so little about them. No writing has been found inside the Great Pyramid, but some have proposed that the outside was once covered in it.

HOW?
Of the 10 pyramids at Giza, the first three are held in the highest regard. The first, and largest, was erected for the Pharaoh Khufu. Known as the Great Pyramid, it rises about 450 feeet  (having lost about 30 feet off the top over the years) and covers 13 acres.
No one really know's any more than the Heiroglyphs have told them. There are heiroglyphs that depict giant statues on rollers, with a person tipping something that could be a lubricant under them. It is possible that some blocks were too heavy to be moved by this method. Many people have sudjested a ramp was wrapped around the pyramids as they  were constructed, but that may have made it difficult to keep the pyramid's angles in check. Considering the weight of the blocks, and the distance down or accross the Nile over which they were transported, boats are a possible source of transport.
Blocks could be loaded onto the boats before the floods, and when the Nile rose so did the boat and block. When the Nile lowered again, the block could be taken off and the boat returned. There are many problems with this hypothosis, not including the difficult task of importing wood. No boats or docks have been found, although as wood was an expensive" imported item, they may have been dismantled for other uses. Some people have suggested that levitation may have played a role. It is possible that sound can have an effect on solid matter, but how this works is beyond the scope of this documents.

WHY?
No-one really know's. At first, the Egyptian dead were buried in the sand, but the wind exposed them and the corpses were looted and eaten. Then rectangular "Mastabas" were put over them, which got bigger and bigger until someone thought of putting one rectangular tomb on top of another, making a crude pyramid shape.
The first stone "Step" pyramid was built for King Zoser at Saqqara, it is 60m high and has a rectangular base. It is not only the Egyptians that built pyramid shaped structures. The Mayans also built temples in that form. The pyramid is much simpler to construct than a tall office block. Further, on looking round the Egyptian desert you can see many natural pyramid shapes that have been carved out by the elements. Perhaps there is something about the shape that ensures longevity.

FUN FACTS:
1. It's believed to have taken 100,000 laborers about 20 years to build the mammoth Khufu pyramid, using an estimated 2.3 million blocks.
2.Many scholars think the pyramid shape was an important religious statement for the Egyptians, perhaps symbolizing the  slanting rays of the sun. Some speculate the sloping sides were intended to help the soul of the king climb to the sky and join the gods.
